In some instances, if you are a farmer or entrepreneur will be tempted to formulate poultry feeds due to the high cost and shortage of them at local market. At that time, you will be asked to know the best way to carry out that activities in order to get high quality and productive poultry feed. With reference to ISO 99:2017 for Compounded poultry feeds –Specification, feed is any substance or product, including additives, whether processed, partially processed or unprocessed, intended to be used for oral feeding to animals. ISO advises the poultry feed producer to consider the following things in order to make quality product  

·     All ingredients and raw materials shall be of high quality, sound condition and not decomposed or deteriorated and shall comply with the relevant standards.

·         Ground raw soybean seed or soybean meal which has not been subjected to adequate heat treatment, shall not be used in poultry feed.

·         Ingredients of animal origin shall be sterilised before use.

·         Vitamin preparations added to feed shall be in stabilised form.

·        Urea or any other nitrogenous substances shall not be added to or included in any poultry feed except such true protein and amino acids as required in this standard.

·         The use of coccidiostats in diets for ducklings is prohibited

·         No antibiotics shall be added to compounded poultry feeds.

·         Compounded poultry feeds may be in form of meal (or mash), crumbs or pellets.

·          The feeds shall be palatable

·         Compounded poultry feeds shall be free from harmful constituents, metallic objects, adulterants and insect infestation.

·         Feeds shall be free from fermented, musty, rancid or any other objectionable odour

Lastly,  the feeds shall provide essential nutrients required for maintenance and production of poultry.
