Clarity of water is important for human consumption and Manufacturing processes such as beverages, and many food products need clear water
Turbidity
is an expression of the optical property that causes light to be scattered and
absorbed and caused by suspended solids, such as sand, silt and clay, floating
in water. Light reflects off these particles, which makes the water look cloudy
or dirty. Turbidity is expressed in nephelometric turbidity units (NTU) or
Formazin turbidity units (FTU), depending on the method and equipment used. Clarity
of water is important for human consumption and Manufacturing processes such as
beverages, and many food products need clear water that makes turbidity, a critical
parameter in water quality assessment.
